Bastion’s new 10,000 sq. ft. Veteran Wellness Center will serve as a resource hub for the 15,000+ veterans who call New Orleans home, consolidating a comprehensive array of partner programs, services, and organizations into one easily accessible location. This will allow Bastion to expand our existing evidence-based programs to serve significantly more local veterans. It will also provide a social gathering place for veterans to connect with one another, creating the same
kinds of mutually supporting bonds that are so essential to the Bastion residential community.
Designed by the architects at the Office of Jonathan Tate, our new space will include:
- Treatment rooms for one-on-one social work sessions, occupational therapy, and other individual services
- Larger flex rooms for programs like Headway to facilitate wellness activities, adaptive exercise, discussion groups, educational workshops, and other group activities
- An auditorium for community events, speakers, and Bastion town hall meetings
- Thoughtful indoor/outdoor design cohesion that allows for the connection of exterior and interior spaces
- A community garden to grow food for our pantry while providing opportunities for agricultural education
- A coffee cart area where veterans can connect, socialize, and familiarize themselves with Bastion, our Veteran Wellness Center offerings, and our supportive community
- A covered outdoor pavilion to host physical exercise activities, like morning workout groups and our Wellness Intensive cohorts
- Solar panels that will serve as a sustainable energy for the building and store back up power in case of storms
The Veteran Wellness Center will support the creation of new jobs on Bastion’s payroll, including more than a dozen tailored, clinician-supported positions for veterans whose conditions make conventional employment difficult to access or maintain.

Bastion’s Veteran Wellness Center will create space for partner organizations to connect with veterans, provide services, and collaborate with other veteran-serving partners. If you work for a veteran-serving organization, please contact Jackson Smith (jackson@joinbastion.org) to learn more about how to get involved with our Veteran Wellness Center.
