
Social Worker
Lovella Calica is a writer, photographer, and multi-media artist. With backgrounds in Human Development, English and social justice organizing, she offers a unique perspective and develops creative, collaborative ways of communicating and supporting people. She is the founder of Warrior Writers, and has edited four anthologies of veterans’ writing/artwork. She has worked with veterans since 2004. Lovella has received three Art and Change grants from the Leeway Foundation and was honored with the Transformation Award in 2009. She self-published two chapbooks of poetry (Makibaka: Beautifully Brave and Huwag Matakot: Do Not be Afraid). She is currently at work on her memoir in poetry. Lovella is a co-founder of the Pilipino-American artist collective, Tatlo Mestiz@s.
She graduated with her Masters in Social Work and received a Trauma Certificate from University of Michigan in 2021. Lovella was trained and certified by TRE Global Certification Training Program and has liability insurance through Hands-On-Trade. She finished her training in 2015 and continues to provide TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises) sessions to veterans, civilians, children, women, artists and others. She has been trained in Mind-Body Medicine and EMDR which she also actively utilizes. She believes there are many pathways to wellness, especially mind-body interventions.
