Hi everyone! With the spring season beginning, let’s consider spring cleaning the body! Make this a time to throw out habits that don’t serve the body well. This could be negative self-talk that can lower self-esteem and discourage you from trying new things, not moving your body enough, or poor sleep habits.
Clean out and replace thoughts of negativity with encouraging mantras or just by reminding yourself that healthy habits take time to build. When you get in the habit of speaking positively to yourself, you’re building self-confidence. You may even find that reframing your thoughts will push you to try new things. Also, pay attention to how you feel mentally when you accomplish a goal. That felt great, right? Keep going, we believe in you!
Get moving! You’ll notice that a short walk, simple stretches or a quick workout can change your outlook on the day or even encourage you to do the rest of that spring cleaning at home. Consider joining activities such as Walk/Run/Ride/Roll group at 9:30am on Tuesdays, Tension/Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) at 2pm on Wednesdays, or Yoga at 11am on Thursdays (reach out to Lovella to find out if there is space at yoga.) Fresh air and sunlight do the body good and allow you to make connections with fellow residents.
Although it may not be an easy habit to get into, a sleep routine is beneficial. Try turning off electronics, reading a book, journaling or dimming lights at the same time each night to wind down. You may even find that melatonin (a natural supplement that mimics the body’s hormone and aids in falling/staying asleep) can help in getting a good night’s rest. Make creating a night-time routine special by including something unique like drinking your favorite tea, using a face mask or listening to your favorite song! Happy Spring!
