When was the last time you took time to pour into yourself? So often we are so busy pouring into others, we forget to water ourselves. With Wellness Day on July 7th, let’s take some time to practice self-care and improve our mental wellness. What is mental wellness? According to The World Health Organization, mental wellness is defined as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.” Although some mental health conditions require the use of prescribed medication; here are some ways to boost your mental wellbeing:
1. Make time to do an activity you enjoy. This can be something as simple as baking, drawing, or listening to music.
2. Practice Mindfulness. Try meditating, participating in yoga or a few breathing exercises.
3. Connect with others. This can give you a sense of belonging and reduce feelings of loneliness.
4. Try peer support. It helps to talk to people who share similar experiences.
5. Volunteer. Helping others can give you a sense of purpose, boost your self-esteem and help you meet new people.
